Mrs. Mathews

WHO- I am Mrs. Mathews I am excited to meet and get to know all of you throughout the school year. A little about myself. I love sports, reading, movies, and spending time with my family. I got my undergraduate degree from Grandview University and my Master in the Art of Teaching from Drake in 2018.

 

WHAT - What will you see in my class day to day? My class is very discussion based, I use group work and collaboration to build a solid foundation of knowledge. I utilize whiteboards in small group work to monitor students progress and success in understanding.  Students will explain their thinking and ideas to gain confidence in their answer, we will learn through trial and error and make correction from our mistakes. 

 

WHY- I have a strong passion for teaching science because science can impact us in many ways throughout our lives in ways we may not even know. I enjoy challenging students with content and pushing them to tackle difficult tasks. I have found throughout years as a teacher if you set the bar high students will rise to the occasion. I also understand that students will need help in reaching those goals from time to time and that is where as an educator we can work together to ensure we can meet those goals.
