Mrs. Smith K-Prep and Remote Reading Teacher

Hello, Welcome to Carlisle Elementary!!  I am the K-Prep teacher for the 2020-2021 school year.  I love working with our younger elementary students and seeing the excitement on their faces as they grow as learners!  In the afternoon I support our remote readers through zoom.  I have always enjoyed the small group setting when working with students and building relationships with them.

Here's a little bit about me!  I am originally from Emmetsburg, GO E-HAWKS!  I graduated from Buena Vista University with my education degree and reading endorsement.  After that I completed my Master's degree in education from Viterbo University.  I am proud to say I have taught in Carlisle for 20 years!  I have been a Reading Interventionist for the past 15 years and before that I was a 4th grade teacher for 5 years.  This year is my first year as being a K-Prep teacher and remote reading teacher.

My husband, Noah, and I live in Carlisle.  We have 2 children Ella(7th grade) and Max(4th grade).  We are proud to be part of the Carlisle community, GO CATS!!  In our spare time we enjoy taking our kids to their sporting practices and events, being outside in the yard, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeye's, being together as a family, traveling to see our family and spending time with our friends here in Carlisle.

I am excited to share that we adopted  the Fountas and Pinnell Classroom (FPC) and the Leveled Literacy Intervention Program (LLI) for grades K-5. Last year I was honored to go to the LLI training in St. Louis.  It was an amazing two day training that helped me dig more into the foundation of the LLI kits and how to implement them with students. Students in this intervention program meet five days a week for 30 min. or 45 min. blocks for group. They also bring home with them a nightly book bag with books that we have read in class to take home and practice with their families.  The foundation of the LLI program is to build a balanced LOVE for reading and writing.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you should have any questions.
